Applicants can apply in 2021 for positions in project:

 MEDICINE AND MAGIA POSTHUMA BETWEEN THE LATE MIDDLE AGES AND THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY

The Department of Archaeology is inviting applications for a postdoc position combining approaches of archaeology, cultural and social history/anthropology, as well as science and intellectual history. The researcher will focus on the relations between medicine, religion and governance in the pre-modern era, with a special focus on magic, witchcraft and vampirism in Central and/or East-Central Europe. He or she should be ready to take part in the activities of the Department, as well as those of the interdisciplinary Centre for the Study of the Middle Ages, which supports this call.

The researcher is expected to take part in teaching at least one seminar per semester. He or she is also expected to publish at least one high quality article in a database journal per academic year, and, by the end of the project, have a substantial research project submitted on behalf of the Faculty of Arts.

Profile of an ideal candidate:

Ph.D. degree in archaeology or history (less than 5 years since graduation)
Research interest and publication track record particularly in the field of social and cultural history, history of science/medicine, religious studies
Previous participation in international projects and interdisciplinary research, experience with preparing project proposals
Teaching experience is welcome
Excellent knowledge of English (FCE equivalent or better)
Strong research skills, creativity, motivation and ability to participate in large research networks.
Due to tax specification, the candidate cannot be employed in any other country than Czech Republic in course of the postdoctoral period.

Salary: Equivalent to 2000 EUR/month
